She often appears in complex, multi-party claims, and has trial advocacy and witness-handling experience well above her level of call.

Nicola specialises in claims against public authorities and police forces.  She is experienced in representing the police in claims for unlawful arrest, false imprisonment and malicious prosecution and is developing a significant practice in coronial law (including in inquest that are Article 2 compliant, and those with a jury).

Nicola also specialises in professional negligence claims with a property related angle, or involving construction professionals, and in property damage claims and those involving nuisance and trespass to land.

Recent cases
Stephen Wiliams(1) Robin Waistell(2) v Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd - sole counsel for C2 at trial, and junior counsel (led by Stephen Tromans QC) in the Court of Appeal in a novel claim concerning the recoverability of damages for nuisance caused by the encroachment of Japanese Knotweed from a railway embankment.

Inquest touching the death of Zane Gbangbola - Junior counsel for Spelthorne Borough Council in the high profile inquest which lasted 6 weeks.

Derek Cook v Chief Constable Sussex Police - Sole counsel for the Chief Constable in a successful summary judgment application in the High Court. The claim concerned liability of the police for false imprisonment at the hands of a third party (the Probation Service).

Matalan Retail Ltd v Partington Associates Ltd & Ors - Junior counsel (led by Ivor Collett) for a firm of structural engineers in a Part 20 claim in excess of £1.5 million following a flood at commercial premises.

Barclays Bank Plc v Canopius Managing Agents Ltd - Junior counsel (led by Ivor Collett) acting for a professional indemnity insurer in a coverage dispute concerning a claim made pursuant to the Rights Against Insurer’s Act 1930.
